Vintage Zenith Tube AM Portable Radio Leatherette G503 5G41 Flip Front ~ Works!

Description

Nice pretty clean zenith model G503 fliptop tube amp portable radio. Based on internal date codes I would say this radio dates from 1950. Paper tube chart label is intact and has reference designations for the tube numbers and their locations. One of the tubes the 3V4, which is the output power tube was missing, I just replaced it with a brand new RCA tube and I will include the original box. After replacing the tube, cleaning and testing all the others and there tube sockets, I brought it up slowly on a Variac power supply. It only draws 100 milliamps at full power which is quite low and it's probably why it can run a battery as a portable. (not included) It probably to be on the safe side would benefit from a cap job and clean and Lube of all the controls although the volume control does not seem to be scratchy. The mechanism for adjusting the tuning dial works smoothly and adjust and pulls in stations as you would expect. The speaker sounds loud and clear and does not have any rattling or voice coil rub. Cosmetics are as shown in photos please examine carefully. It is a pretty clean unmolested example and I have no doubt that it is fully restorable should you want to take it up the next level, otherwise it just looks cool!
